Hi HEXers! It’s been a busy week with Video Game Day, World Cup, NBA Free Agency, and plenty going on in Entrath as well. Let’s cover everything that’s happening with your weekly Friday update!
We applied a server hotfix earlier this week to reintroduce large tournaments and fix a small bug with the 3-month VIP subscriptions. We were able to target and resolve the large tournament bugs we found in the previous version. As we mentioned last week, these bugs were crazy corner cases—like deleting a deck after registering for a tournament but before entering it—and we thank you for your help in finding these. Now that those bugs are cleaned up, we’re looking for any other hiccups in that system. We’ve had a few tournaments complete successfully, and we’ve identified a few gating issues with them as well. We’ll keep large tournaments going over the weekend as we continue to monitor their performance.
Late last week, we sent out more beta keys to users along with promos for some of our streamers, fan websites. For those of you waiting to get in, thanks for your patience. We’ll continue to send out Beta keys and get more players in as we can. If you would like to get in the action, email HEXMedia@HEXTCG.com with your name, what you’re doing to support the HEX community, and a link to your content.
Greetings, HEX fiends! Your Loregoyle is here to give you an update on the HEX novel.
One of the most exciting stretch goals of the Kickstarter (at least for me) was to hire a writer to create the first in a series of novels that will greatly expand and deepen the world of HEX. We managed to snag one of the best: Christie Golden, who has written beloved books for World of Warcraft, Star Wars, and many other properties.
Christie pitched a number of story ideas at us, and Cory and I chose the one that really captured the essence of how we wanted to present Entrath to our players. From there, Christie shocked us by doing a deep dive on HEX lore, asking tons of awesome, detailed questions (such as “What is the population of the coyotle city of Wakuna?” and “Do necrotic know what food is?”) It was a great relief to know that this novel would be as much of a passion project for Christie as it was for everyone else who works on HEX.
The novel is now complete and in the proofreading stage. The official title is The Accidental Knight.
I’ve read through it and it is better than I could have anticipated. Christie is a master at getting you to care about her characters, and there are certainly personalities that are going to leap off the page and become beloved figureheads in the HEX lore. She is also terrific at describing action, and the story has plenty of it.
I don’t have an exact release date for you, but I wanted to at least let you guys know that the Christie has finished writing. When it is ready, Kickstarter backers will be getting a free e-book copy. The novel will also be available for sale to non-backers in both e-book and “dead tree” versions.
Charity Stream for Child’s Play
On August 1st, community members Infamousne0 and Cirouss will be streaming for 48 hours straight on the HEXTCG Twitch Channel for Child’s Play. They’ll be booster drafting, playing Constructed, and giving the 128 person tournaments a run! Community members will also have a chance to challenge them to matches, promote their own streams and sites. These generous two will be giving away alternate art cards, packs, and one special prize—a vanity card for HEX Set 3! That’s right, get your pretty face into the world of Entrath and be a part of the game forever!
So, make sure to check out the streams for Infamousne0 and Cirouss. Follow the HEXTCG Twitch channel, and bookmark their donation page. Their goal is $500, but I bet we can beat that in the first hour, right?! A huge thanks to those two for putting this together and the same to all of you in advance for your support.
That’s all for this week. Next week, we’ll be covering convention appearances and giveways, plus much more. Please leave any questions or comments in the forums linked below, and don’t forget to Like us on Facebook, Follow us on Twitch, register on our forums, and Follow us on Twitter.
