On the Losing Team – Part III

Mar 8, 2018

Let’s address the elephant in the room… One or our main teams is not having a good go of it in Doombringer. After the death of Lyvaanth, the Luminaries began reeling and searching for answers… which The Librarian was happy to provide. So not only were they beaten, but then they were corrupted. Are they out of the tournament for good, or will this new, darker path provide them with some motivation to win the entire tournament?

Other teams aren’t making a much better go of it, either. While I can’t comment on one of those main teams (as you’ll find out more about them soon), I want to address the major beating that The Pack took at the hands of the Luminaries before Worldscar opened and effectively saved them. CAGE was destroyed and The Pack were scrambling out of the Frost Ring Arena in defeat when Doombringer Kha showed up. So, they definitely lost that fight. Are they out yet? Not by any stretch of the imagination! They’re bringing all new flavors of pain, but will Fatalfuel provide the kick they need to bring victory back? We’ll see.

But while some of our teams are still poised for victory, today is not about that. Today is about the downtrodden, the dusty, the beaten and the bottom-tier. Today we look at more of the unlucky teams which didn’t make the grade in Doombringer.

Wandering Wayfarers

The rescued gnomes that you fought so tirelessly to bring out of the desert decided to band together and head north to cooler climates. They hoped that by winning the Frost Ring Arena they could forever rid Entrath of the diabolical Wormoids (even through it really went against their natural instincts to preserve and catalog indigenous species). Sadly, they didn’t anticipate any non-indigenous species showing up.

Claw of the Raven

This group of intellectual wizards fought in the Frost Ring Arena for the return of their prized jeweled crown. However, if there is any team you don’t want to cross or welch on a deal with, it is the Coinsharks. Alas, the Claw of the Raven (who we last saw beating up on the Light of the Silver Forest in Frostheart) did just that. In trying to take a fall and fix a match for the Coinsharks, some of their members went against the script. They didn’t like the idea of losing and decided to do their best. And win they did—not just the match, but also a fairly uncomfortable conversation.

The Army of 1000 Masterdons

This woolly group seeks to turn all living sentient beings into Masterdons should they win. The first Masterdon (and all the other Masterdons since) was convinced that the frozen north gave them a tactical advantage, as they were born for cold weather. Little did they know the extent to which some teams could control the cold.

10011101

There are infinite robot teams that made their way to the Frost Ring Arena. This team fought for the same reasons as 11001001 and many other sentient robot teams, to create a robot utopia in the Great Machine Graveyard. It is possible that a robot team will still come out on top one day, but it’s hard to get on top of something that comes down hard on you.

Development Exhibit

This team of two – Rysu and Sleepy – wanted to become famous by chronicling their battle process in the Frost Ring Arena so that others might learn how to become better at battling themselves. Once each week they would send word out to their supporters and have their exploits communicated in real time via carrier pigeon. Chronicling their process did not always go well, but it always got a warm welcome.

South Sea Warmongers

This band of Troll Pirates cultivated a fearsome reputation as cutthroat warmongers that ruled the southern Alachian Sea shores. Hoping for a 10,000 year reign as the undisputed rulers of the Alachian Sea, things got a bit sticky when they came across opponents that were sweeter than they were salty.

Nanamancer

Ok, hang on… can we break out of our pattern for just a moment? We killed off the Nanamancer?! He was my favorite! I thought for sure he would win the Frost Ring Arena tournament! Now my dream of a final fight between the Nanamancer and Shenanigator is dead. This can’t be the end. Oh my god…

Clan Bfeldon

This wealthy family from the east sought to expand their empire with a convincing win in the Frost Ring Arena. Wealth and worldly power can sometimes be corrupted from within, but it can also be corrupted by external influence. As we saw all too well with the Luminaries, one guiding hand down the wrong path can undo an empire.

Iron Syndicate

The toughest looking group you’ve ever seen banded together in a formidable team called the Iron Syndicate. With the intention of creating a new unified faction of Trolls, Goblins, Nox, and Minotaurs to rip power from the Ardent and Underworld, it soon became clear that the impressive members of the Iron Syndicate had jaws of glass.

Pika Pathfinders

This group of shin’hare explorers desired all lands and animals be known to the Shin’hare Empire. Knowledge is power, and their goal was to know where all things were so they could create the most effective strategies for their emperor. Sometimes you learn the hard way that danger is not always visible.

We hope you enjoyed this peek at the Doombringer Frost Ring failures. Remember, these are just a few of the brave and foolhardy souls who answered Hogarth’s summons. Keep your eyes peeled for more colorful characters come in Doombringer.
